lonard_18th_tee_thursdayA strong finishing nine in round two of the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston has Peter safely inside the cut mark and kept alive his hopes of not only a good week this week but of making it through to the next round of the FedEx Cup playoffs next week in St Louis.

After his opening round of even par left him well behind the eight ball in terms of making the cut, Peter reached the turn today in one under but it was clear at that stage he would need to play the back nine in at least two under to have any chance of advancing to the final two rounds.

Birdies at the 12th and 16th appeared as if it might be enough but playing early in the day in round two another birdie would ensure that he would be safe. That birdie came at the par five last when he got up and down from the right side of the green to finish with 67 and at 4 under he is in 54th position.

At this stage there are too many permutations in regard to what Peter will need to do over the final 36 holes to make the final 70 to advance to the next week's event but he has at least give himself a chance with a much improved effort today. Leading into this week he was 84th on the FedEx table and he has now advanced to 73rd so further improvement is still required over the next two days with this tournament finishing on Monday US time.
