A strong closing nine holes by Peter has seen him finish in third place at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and he will pick up a cheque for US$238,000 in doing so.

A front nine of even par had Peter trailing his playing partners Fred Funk and Jose Coceres by four but he closed quickly on the back nine and a birdie at the last got him within one of the playoff pair, Funk and Coceres. 

The 50 year old Funk went on to win the event but for Peter it was his best USPGA Tour finish since his win at the Verizon Heritage Classic nearly two years ago and his first top five since the Bank of America Colonial event in May of last year.

Peter now heads back to Florida for this week's Honda Classic at Palm Beach Gardens.
