Mixed fortunes in round two for Peter

08_arnold_palmer_invitational_-_scott__miller_getty_imagesIf Peter was describing his second round of 68 at this week's Buick Open to a member of his beloved Bulldogs rugby league team he would say that it was a 'round of two halves'.

There is perhaps no better way to describe a round that promised so much but in the end only partially delivered. Peter has comfortably made the cut but through seven holes of his round he was 6 under for the day and 8 under for the tournament and moving into contention.

Starting his round at the 10th hole, Peter opened with a birdie at the par four, parred the 11th and then reeled off five consecutive birdies. He made a great up and down from the left hand trap at his 8th hole (the 17th) for par. He turned in 30 but began to struggle over the back nine with three bogies in his first six holes.

"I am so close to playing well," said Peter after his round. "It's definitely closer than it has been all year. I couldn't miss a shot during the first eight holes and then it seemed that every bad shot after that got the worst result. Hopefully I can continue this over the weekend."

Peter rallied back with two late birdies but then three putted his last to finish with 68 and at 6 under par he is in 30th position and eight shots behind the second round leader, Bo Van Pelt.
