Four starts at Augusta and Peter has yet to make the cut. In today’s second
round of the 2006 Masters, Peter improved from his opening round of 76 by two
shots but it was not enough to play the weekend for the first time around the
hallowed Augusta National.
“I made such a poor start yesterday,” said Peter referring to his opening few
holes of round one where he dropped four shots in the first five holes. This is
not a golf course where you want to be chasing you tail trying to make up shots.
In the end a round of 76 wasn’t too bad after the start that I had.”
“Today it was the back nine that caused the problems although despite a front
nine of even par there was still a stretch in the middle of that nine where I
dropped three consecutive shots. Surprisingly it was more my tee to green game
that was the problem this year rather than my putting. I just didn’t hit enough
fairways or greens.”
“I thought the course played well over these first two days with the firmer,
faster, golf course counteracting the additional length this year.”
Peter now heads to the Verizon Heritage looking to defend the title he won
twelve months ago. He missed the cut at Augusta last year prior to winning at
Harbour Town.
