Returning to the scene of his brilliant 2005 win at the Harbour Town Links at
Hilton Head Island in South Carolina has not quite been the homecoming that
Peter was hoping for
After opening rounds of 71 and 70 to be at one under and two shots inside the
cut line heading into the weekend, Peter struggled throughout the final two
rounds and eventually finished in 59th place.
In round three, double bogies at the 8th and 10th holes cost any chance of a
reasonable round and on Sunday, although he started well with three early
birdies he eventually finished with one under 71.
Having led for much of this event following his opening round of 62 in 2005, it
was disappointing to have been unable to put up a better defence of his title.
“It was still a great week despite not playing the way I wanted,” Peter said
after the event. “It was nice to be here as the defending champion and to be
part of the ceremonial activities that the defending champion is part of but I
just could not get things going in the right direction momentum wise.”
Peter now heads back to Orlando before a fleeting trip to Thailand to help his
good mate Jimmy Barnes celebrate his 50th birthday following which he will play
the Wachovia Championship.
