This past week has been a shocker for Bulldogs supporter Peter Lonard. Not only did his team get robbed by a controversial referring decision in their match against the Dragons on Friday last but a week earlier he had lost a bet with his good friend and manager Mick Graham on the match against the Tigers
The loss of the bet was bad enough but as a result of that loss he was forced to wear the Tiger's jersey during a lunch he and Mick had together, rubbing salt into the wound. Pete was so confident of a Bulldogs victory that he gave Mick 6.5 points as Pete figured that without their great playmaker Benjie Marshall the West Tigers would struggle.
The end result was a win to the Bulldogs 22 - 20 but with the points given taken into account, Pete lost the bet and during lunch together last week in Orlando Peter was seen to be wearing the Tiger's jersey. (see photo).

Peter is in Orlando this week taking a break before a concerted campaign over the next few weeks. "I was going to play in Texas but withdrew last week," said Peter today.
"I really feel that my game is not as bad as my scores are suggesting it is and if I can get things going in the right direction then it should begin to fall into place. I seem to be rolling along in tournaments until one mistake sets things off so hopefully when I get back into it at the Byron Nelson next week it will begin to pick up.
"I spent some time with David Leadbetter today and we are both happy with the technical side of things and one thing I have done that might make a further difference is that I have had my eyesight checked again and had contacts fitted."
"I played today for the first time with the contacts and the difference was quite amazing. I did have Lasik eye surgery a few years back but it was not all that successful and the last couple of years my eyesight has gotten worse. Hopefully this is going to help me on the greens. I am right eye dominant but unfortunately that has been my weakest eye of late."
"I will play as many events as I can over the next few weeks including the Byron Nelson, the Colonial, the Memorial, maybe Memphis dependant on how things are going and then try and qualify for the US Open. I need to play as many as I can to get things back on track."

Peter's second round of 73 at the Players Championship was an improvement but it was still not enough to give him any chance of making the weekend field after the damage had been done with yesterday's opening round of 77.
An outward nine of 40 on day one left Peter with too much work to do, eventually missing the cut by six shots. The putter was again much of the problem with 35 and 32 putts respectively on days one and two.
Peter was scheduled to play next week's Valero Texas Open in San Antonio but his next start will be at the HP Byron Nelson event in Dallas starting on May 21st

Peter plays the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida for the sixth time this week looking to find the sort of form that saw him finish 6th at the TPC Sawgrass in 2007.
For Peter the start of 2009 has been a struggle although there have been times when his game has appeared close to where it needs to be to to contend once again.
Peter finished 6th in this event in 2007 after contending throughout and trailing by two enterring the final round. Those good memories of a golf course he enjoys are what is needed this week if he is to get his season back on track.

Costly double bogey at the last |

An agonising double bogey at the last hole in today's second round of the Quail Hollow Championship has cost Peter the chance to play the weekend at the event in Charlotte in North Carolina.
After battling early in round two, Peter had fought his way back with consecutive birdies at the 14th and 15th holes but the potentially dangerous 18th was still to come. Peter missed the fairway right with his tee shot and had 173 yards for his approach. He pulled it left and found the hazard which guards the left half of the hole. He was forced to drop on the other side of the hazard and although he pitched to 10 feet he missed his bogey saving putt and took double.
Despite the disappointment of missing the cut in such a frustrating manner there were several good signs this week including when Peter birdied his last three holes in round one to recover from what had been a slow start to the event.
Peter eventually missed the cut by two and he now heads to Ponte Vedra Beach for this coming week's Players Championship
