A horror closing nine of 42 has seen Peter well and truly miss the cut at the Australian PGA Championship, a disappointing end to a tough year in 2012.
Peter, after his opening round of 75 yesterday, needed a low round today to make the cut, the mark appearing as if it would be even par or perhaps one over when he started his round.
Out in 36, Peter still had a chance as he headed into his closing nine holes but a double bogey at the 1st hole (his 10th) was followed by a dropped shot at the 2nd and another double at the par five 3rd. It was his third double bogey on par fives over the opening 36 holes.
Any chance he had of making the cut had disappeared and he will now have the weekend and the next few weeks off before heading back to the US in mid January.

After the battles of Sunday at the Australian Open, Peter is in the more
relaxed environment of Coolum on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland as he
prepares for this week's Australian PGA Championship, a title he has
won on three previous occasions at this venue.
The Palmer Coolum Resort has proved controversial and today Peter got a
chance to again see some of the cause of the controversy. Jeff the
dinosaur is placed alongside the 9th green and there are many signs
painted onto the fairway but that aside the golf course is presented as
well if not better than it has been in many years.
"The golf course is good," said Peter as he played his practice round with guests and members of the Sunshine Coast council.
"Last Sunday was a bit of a disaster but hopefully this is a whole new
week," said Peter contemplating his chances and referring to his battles on the final day at the Australian Open. My game is a bit hard to
pick at present but hopefully things can improve from my exhibition at
the Lakes.
Brendan has a 12.10 tee time on day one when he will play with Brett Rumford and John Senden.

Peter has completed a final round of 79 at the Emirates Australian Open and finished well back in the field.
It was a disappointing week for Peter especially given that the event
was played on his home golf course and in conditions that would normally
have suited his style of play.
Peter had rallied late on Saturday with three late birdies after he had
experienced a quadruple bogey nine at the par five 11th but an early
double bogey at the 1st on day four set the done for a long day.
Peter will now head north to Coolum on the Sunshine Coast where he plays
the Australian PGA Championship, an event he has won on three previous
occasions at the Hyatt Regency Coolum. The venue is now renamed the
Palmer Coolum Resort but the layout is essentially the same and Peter
will be keen to utilize his fond memories of the Resort to get his game
heading in the right direction.

Peter is unsure as to just how things will go this week when he plays
his first Australian Open since 2008 but one things is for sure he will
not lack local knowledge.
Peter is a member of the Lakes Golf
Club where this week's Emirates Australian Open is being played and
although he has not played comeptitively and very little overall since
the Second Stage of Qualifying for the PGA Tour School three weeks ago
he is hoping that his game is good enough shape to do well.
Peter
has been a member of the Lakes Golf Club for several years and when back
in Sydney practices here religiously but he only just returned from
the USA last weekend.
"I had a poor finish to the year and hopefully I can get things heading in the right direction here and at the PGA next week.
"I know this course well which obviously helps but you have to play well also."
"My
season was frustrating as I would play well then have a bad nine hole
stretch on a regular basis so that is something that I need to work on -
namely minimising the mistakes.
"Peter will head back to the
USA in January to play as many of the early season Web.com Tour event he
can get a start in and hopefully be well positioned when the re-rank
comes.
Peter plays tomorrow at 7.50am with Queensland amateur Cameron Smith and South Australianj Nick Cullen.

Peter is heading home to Australia after missing out on advancing to the Final Stage of Qualifying for the 2013 PGA Tour.
After an opening round of 68 had him well enough placed in the 72 hole event in Panama City in Florida, Peter proceded to slip down the leaderboard and eventually finished well outside the required top 19 and ties who made it through to the Final Stage.
Peter will now head back to Australia with only limited status on the Web.com Tour for 2013 and will play the Australian Open at his home club at the Lakes in Sydney and the Australian PGA Championship at Coolum on a golf course over which he has won on three occasions.
