Peter started his round at 7.35 in perfect warm and mild conditions and when he birdied the first from 15 feet he had joined the overnight leader, Michael Sim, in the lead. Peter dropped a shot at the 11th (his second hole) when he was not prepared to attack the flag at the dangerous par three. "I didn't want to go at the flag but it was bad shot as I pulled it left into the grassy swale and then missed from 8 feet for par." The bogey was Peter's first in tournament play on this course since the 6th hole of the final round in 2005." Peter made the turn in 34 after birdies at the 15th and 16th but at the 4th hole (his 13th) he found the bunker with his tee shot and was forced to lay up. His third from just 100 yards was ordinary. "I have only recently taken on board a new lob wedge and am still not yet confident of how far it goes. The shot found the bank short and right of the green and I couldn't get up and down. I made birdie at the 7th from 10 feet however and then got up and down from the swale left of the green at the 8th for one last birdie. To be honest I did not play well on the back nine and am off to the range to work out what the problem was. It just didn't feel right but I know it is not far away." As Peter left the media centre he was in a share of the lead although several afternoon challenges were developing. He is it would seem however, assured of a place in the top three by day's end. |
