Peter gets first look at Royal Liverpool

peter_putting_at_moonah_05After spending the last few days in the Southport area of Lancashire playing other Links courses, Peter has had his first look at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in a practice round and expressed his liking for the course.

"I was impressed," he said as he celebrated his 39th birthday on Monday evening. "We played it in a certain breeze today and it is clear that with any sort of wind there will be significant demands, especially from the tee. The bunkering on most fairways is placed so it will catch players out in most wind conditions it would seem."

The greens were a little inconsistent today some were quicker and firmer than others but I would imagine they should get that right by nearer tournament time. The much talked about internal out of bounds will be of concern, two in particular I noticed were at the third and eighteenth holes. In fact I didn't really even notice the one of the third until Bussy (Peter's caddy) pointed it out. The one on eighteen will ensure that this event is not over till it is over that's for sure."

Peter played the Formby Golf Club course just outside of Southport and the Hesketh Golf Club, which is one of the oldest golf courses in that area, in the lead up to the Open.

Peter had last week off at home in Orlando after a bizzare last round at the Western Open where he opened with a four and three putt. Peter is now using a Bettinardi putter especially made for him in the long version. It was the short version of the Bettinardi that he used when he won the MCI Heritage event last year.

"I was crook the weekend of the Western also and actually had a drip on the Friday and Saturday morning after what may well have been a bout of food poisining . I felt I was really hitting the ball well but by Sunday I was running out of steam."

"Overall I am very happy with the way I am hitting the ball and we shall see how things pan out this week."

Peter has an 12.58 tee time on Thursday when he will play with Lucas Glover and Graeme McDowell and will have a 7.47 time on Friday.
