Peter made a significant improvement on his previous
best round at Augusta National when he opened with a round of 71 on day one of the 2008 Masters.
After an
hour delay for fog, Peter was out in one of the early groups today and
got things underway with a birdie at the par five second. He added two
further birdies and two bogies, the final birdie of the day coming at
the par five 15th which moved him under par once again and that was
where he finished.
"I felt I played pretty well today," said Peter this evening. "The course was in great
condition and the weather was perfect. The more I play here the more I think it
is more about where you miss shots rather than the good shots. You just have to miss the greens in the right spots or you have
no chance."
"My two bogies for the day were both three putts but were
from about 90 foot. I just got them running off the wrong side of the tiers."
"I thought I took some good
options today, am looking forward to tomorrow and hope I can make a few."
Peter has played this event on
four previous occasions without making the cut, in fact his best
previous round has been 74 which he recorded on two occasions in 2004
and 2006.
The cut at this early stage appears
likely to fall around the 4 - 5 over mark, although things might change
dependant the weather on day two. Today's conditions after the early
fog were perfect for scoring.
