While disappointed to miss one of his favourite golf courses and events at this week's Memorial Tournament, Peter has decided that discretion is the better part of valour by taking a little extra time to allow his back injury to heal further.
"I had my first actual swings today," said Peter from his home in Orlando. "I have been chipping and putting for the last few days but today was the first time I had actually swung a club since the Players. It seems to be recovering but I will take this week off and if things improve I might attend US Open qualifying next Monday although the chances are not good at this stage."
Next week's St Jude event in Memphis is also a possibility.
Peter has been out of action since mising the cut at the Players Championship when affected by a niggling back complaint he incurred during a break after the Verizon event.
With nearly US$900,000 in earnings this season, Peter has no concerns regarding the retention of his card but is keen to get back into tournament golf
Peter has special memories of the Muirfield Village layout, which is home for this week's event, as he finished 15th as a non USPGA Tour member in 2001, a finish that encouraged him to attempt to get his card in the US later that year.
UPDATE _ Peter will now not play until the Travelers Championship in Hartford the week following the US Open."I have only just started to hit balls again and feel that I will need at least two weeks preparation which takes me through to the event at the TPC River Highlands on June 19th"
