Once again the opening holes caught Peter out. Yesterday he was three over through three today he dropped two shots early and as he made the turn after further dropped shots at the 7th and 9th he stood at two over for the tournament. With the cut hovering at that stage between even par and one under it was clear what he needed to do. The almost obligatory birdies at the three par fives were important but he was also able to birdie the two par threes and as he walked from the 18th hole he was about to sign for a 69. At four under he is within striking distance of his best ever finish in this event. That was in 2002, when 14th, but he has created a platform to improve on that over the weekend. The new Bettinardi putter seems to be doing it's job with another solid day on the greens. Peter plays at 12.35 in round three, two hours before the final pairing of Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. |

As was the case in round one of the Open Championship, Peter was forced to stage a late rally in round two, his brilliant last nine of six under 31 moving from well outside the cut line to finish the day in 22nd place.
