Two late birdies keep Peter in AT&T National

Peter has birdied his final two holes of round two at the AT&T National at the Congressional Country Club to ensure a place for him in the weekend field.

Peter started at the 10th hole, the converted par three and made bogey but was able to save a very important par at the 11th to consolidate. By the time he reached his 17th hole (the course's 8th) Peter was at one over for the day and 6 over for the tournament and appeared to be missing the cut by two.

Peter had just missed what semed a very important 7 foot birdie chance at the 7th. The par four 8th is a dogleg right shortish par four and Peter took a fairway wood from the tee and hit his second from just over 100 yards to six feet and this time made it. The 9th is a marginally reachable par five provided a good drive is produced. Peter did just that smashing his drive and was left with 255 yards to the hole. His second across the valley short of the green came up just short in one of the front traps and he was left with a tough bunker shot. Peter hit that shot to 7 feet and when he made that his chance to progress over the weeekend was guaranteed.

Considering he opened his tournament with an opening nine of 40 on Thursday, Peter has done well to recover the way he has and he is now just a couple of good rounds away from what could yet be a good week.
