Peter's Nationwide Tour season has come to an end and he will now prepare for Stage Two Qualifying for the 2012 PGA Tour. That will be held in mid November so the hope that he might be able to play the Australian Open and PGA Championships is gone.

"It was a pretty dissapointing end to a dissapointing year," said Peter after missing the cut at the Winn Dixie Jacksonville Open. "I drove the ball poorly this week and really paid the penalty."

"Now I need to stay here for another three weeks(at least) and attend Stage Two.

"I am going to take the weekend off then get back into it early next week.

"Unfortunately the only tournament I will be back for in Australia is the Australian Masters but am looking forward to that at least."

Peter's task in Jacksonville is clear

Peter has finished in 47th position at the Miccosukee Championship near Miami adding a final round of 69 to improve a few places on his third round position.

Peter's third round of 74 left him too great a task to finish a lot closer and although he improved in round four it was a case of too little too late.

Peter now heads to next week's Winn Dixie event in Jacksonville in NE Florida knowing what he needs to do to achieve important money list milestones if he is to make it to the Tour Championship in ten days time.

He needs at worst a second place finish if he is to make the top 60 and ensure he gets a start at the Nationwide Tour Championship and earn full status again on the Nationwide Tour next year. If he is to avoid Stage Two qualifying for next year's PGA Tour he needs to finish inside the top 40 on the money list.

He currently appears assured of conditional status on the Nationwide Tour in 2011 but clearly his goals are much higher than that over the next two weeks.

Late fightback keeps Peter in Miccosukee field

Peter has fought strongly down the stretch to safely make the cut at the Miccosukee Championship in Miami.

After his opening round of two under 69 left him needing perhaps another such round today to make the cut, Peter picked up his first birdie of the day at his 9th hole but he needed to keep things going as the cut score had come in to 3 under. A bogey at his 12th hole set him back and he needed some thing special over the closing stages if he was to  make the weekend field.

Peter birdied his 16th and 18th holes ensuring  a place in the weekend field and the chance to make further progress.

"I played pretty well today but kept sliding it past the hole," said Peter after his round. "Until I had only 4 holes to go I never even thought I could miss the cut. It was nice to pull it together over the last few. I need a big weekend."

Peter aiming for big finish to season

Peter is back in his adopted State of Florida this week for the third to last event on the Nationwide Tour schedule, the Miccosukee Championship at the Miccosukee Golf and Country Club in Miami.

Following what was an encouraging best Nationwide Tour finish of the year last week in Chattanooga, Peter heads into this week's event with a lot more confidence given the improvement in all aspects of his game which even includes his putttng: "I am still a little dodgy over the short ones with the short putter but I am definitely holing more longer putts," said Peter on Monday referring to his recent switch to the short putter.

While the main aim over the next two events is to force his way into the top 60 who will play the season ending Tour Championship in two weeks time and thus open the opportunity for a late bid for the top 25 on the money list, there are other moneylist milestones for Peter which are also important.

Full exemption on the 2012 Nationwide Tour comes from finishing inside the top 60 on the money list, access to the Final Stage of the PGA Tour School comes as a result of finishing between 26th and 40th and a place on the 2012 PGA Tour is the reward for those inside the top 25.

While there is still a lot of work for Peter to do to reach any of those milestones his improvement to 85th last week has assisted his cause and with the knowledge that his game is improving each and every week the possibilities are still wide open.

Update Wed 13th

"The course this week is a pretty good one and If the wind blows it will be quite the test," said Peter on Wednesday.

"I have spent a lot of time on the putting and chipping green and I think I am on the right track. The greens are quite grainy so will be a big test for me.

"I was fairly happy with last week but it would be very good for the confidence if I could string a couple of good tournaments in a row.

"Top 60 on the Order of Merit would be great as it would allow me to come back and play Australia. That would be the best present of all."

Peter has finished in a share of 10th position at this week’s Children’s Hospital Classic on the Nationwide Tour, the highlight coming in round three when he produced his best round of the year, an eight under par 64.

Peter started the final round in Chattanooga in a share of 5th position but after a good start faltered in the middle of the round before a last hole birdie saw him finish in a share of 10th.

The US$12,500 cheque has moved Peter to 85th position on the money list an improvement of 16 positions.

It was definitely closer today,” said Peter after his round. “I had a three putt on eleven which hurt and then hit a pretty good shot into the 14th and made a bogey. I had half a club too much.

“The 15th was just a poor shot-more in disbelief of what I had done the hole before.

“I still need to do a bit of work on my short putts(with the short putter) but all in all it was a pretty good week.

There are now three more events on this year’s Nationwide Tour schedule although in order for Peter to play the final of those, the Tour Championship, he will likely need another US$50,000 in the next two events.

That task starts this coming week with the Miccosukee Championship in Miami followed by the Winn Dixie Jacksonville Open at Ponte Vedra Beach.
